I am an Associate Professor at the Department of Public Health of Erasmus Medical Center and head of the research section on evaluation of screening for gastrointestinal disorders. I have been responsible for the management and development of the Microsimulation Screening Analysis (MISCAN)-Colon model since 2003, and the MISCAN-Esophagus model since its initiation in 2010. My modeling work informed the 2018 American Cancer Society Colorectal Cancer (CRC) Screening guidelines, the 2016 US Preventive Services Task Force recommendations, US Medicare reimbursement decisions and the Dutch national CRC screening program. My work has been published in several authoritative medical journals. I am a member of the European Cancer Network and lead author of a chapter in the European Guidelines for Quality Assurance in Colorectal Cancer Screening and the IARC handbook on CRC screening. In 2017, I received the Felix Burda award for my research contributing to the successful implementation of the Dutch colorectal cancer screening program.
